Our review

The location is superb – a short, easy walk from the escalators up from the main entrance to Edinburgh Waverley Station, with sweeping views of the iconic Edinburgh Castle, the Scott monument and Princes Street Gardens, a vista seen on a million postcards.

Two main areas have been completely restyled and have been open a for a year. Firstly, there is the stylish and contemporary Juniper Bar (serving an exceptionally wide range of gins and gin cocktails) with its elegant and plush little library room open to all. Thi is a real find in the city if you fancy being cosseted quietly.

Twenty Princes Street is the hotel’s restaurant, but it doesn’t feel at all like a hotel restaurant which is obviously one of the reasons for the venue’s success. With its first-floor setting, huge bay windows providing glorious panoramas, high ceilings and on-trend music, it offers a vibrant setting for dinner.

The menu is exciting and full of originality. Head chef Tony Sarton is a master of flavour and detail. This is dining informally, yet to a high and highly stimulating standard. Many dishes have a twist to them. For example, there is  a Josper grill for prime Castle of Mey steaks, if you are in the mood.

The management team has received much praise and has been together now for quite some time, lending a special consistency and friendliness to the atmosphere and service standards on offer.

The review will be updated once the rebranding is completed.
