Our review

The Buccleuch Arms is strategically placed on the A68, near Melrose, in a beautiful part of the Scottish Borders and thus enjoys easy road links to both Newcastle and Edinburgh. Overlooking the quaint village green and adjacent to the local cricket club, it is an ideal stop-off point on a journey across the Borderlands. Its location also makes the inn an ideal base from which to explore the fabulous surrounding countryside, with many scenic walks on its doorstep.

There is a very warm welcome awaiting you at the Buccleuch Arms; the atmosphere and environment is that of a relaxed and comfortable country inn. As would be expected, the friendly, local team can help and advise on a whole host of rural pursuits such as shooting, fishing, golf and horse riding.

The food available at this four-star coaching inn is excellent. Their menu starts off with a sumptuous choice of fine breakfast dishes, all cooked to order, beautifully presented and made with locally sourced ingredients.  As the day moves on, so does the food with the introduction of hearty sandwiches at lunchtime and wonderfully mature steaks from named local farms in the evening. There is also a terrific selection of salads, burgers and classic comfort food, all prepared to the exacting standards set by the owners and Head Chef. The drinks list includes over 20 gins, 10 of which are Scottish, and their carefully composed and affordable wine list is sure to satisfy those discerning customers seeking out an evening tipple.

The 19 tastefully designed rooms are all en suite and there is a variety of sizes to match the standard and budget you prefer. After a long day, the comfortable lounge on the ground floor is a relaxing place to have a drink or read a book before the roaring fire.

The location also makes the Buccleuch Arms a popular destination for larger parties that wish to utilise the Board Room for intimate dinners or meetings and the Salmon Room for larger events.

Whether driving south or north, don’t drive past the Buccleuch Arms!
